In just about every funeral I conduct the family asks me to read the 23rd Psalm. I suppose I could say it is a funeral staple. But I don’t think it was ever intended to be. These verses shouldn’t be stored away and brought out at the graveside of a loved one … only. This is a Psalm for the living! These are verses describing the love relationship between the Shepherd (Jesus) and His sheep (us). And verse 1 tells us that God will provide for us.
Psalm 23: 1
“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want …”
Please don’t confuse wants with needs. God never promises to give us all we want, but to supply all we need. And there is a big difference. Trust Him today for your needs and ask Him to help you be content with what He allows you to have.
